I have been wanting to go to Duende for so long and finally, I made it!! Took my lovely Mum out for tea with my little sister and enjoyed a really tasty dinner.

It wasn’t quite what I expected inside, we sat in the bar area and it has quite a chilled out atmosphere, I was expecting something really sophisticated. Will go back and check out the Bistro at some stage and see if it is any different. It was certainly busy and the service was pretty good, though we always had to “catch the eye” to get someone to come to the table. I admit I like it when waitstaff ask me how a meal is going and whether they can refill our drinks or if they can get us anything else. Pamper me, I want to feel special! They played some old school music which was fun – great for the mother. Ha.

The food was quick to come out and it was good! I almost wouldn’t want to order all at once. To me, going out for tapas should take in the vicinity of two hours or more. We ordered a bit, then ordered some more and it worked out pretty well.

The Potato Bravas was quite different to others I have tried but they were smothered in Paprika and super crispy – yum, yum! We had Sweet Corn and Manchego Croquettes and they were salty and crispy and everything a croquette should be! The Chorizo was good but didn’t have any delicious dipping juices for the bread. The lamb rump was tender but the accompanying hummus was the standout for me – no sign of the pomegranate mentioned on the menu though. Pork Belly with gooey nectarines – amazing. The Prawn and Chorizo Paella balls were good, but had better.

Let’s move onto desserts.. I was really looking forward to the doughnut balls because they list them as their specialty on the website. Dry. Had better doughnuts from trucks at festivals… Disappointing. Flourless chocolate cake? Now that makes for happy days and happy belly! Salted caramels were little mouthfuls of delight too – note you get four to a serve, not one as we thought when we ordered two serves.. Oh well! Coffee was average but looked pretty.

In summary, will definitely go back as the tapas were good and the service was good. Doesn’t rival Amphoras for best tapas though.

From the top – left to right:
Menu, Potato Bravas, Lamp Rump, Prawn and Chorizo Paella Balls, Pork Belly, Well deserved drink, Coffee (somebody loved me!), Salted Caramels, Flourless Chocolate Cake, Doughnut balls with Condensed Milk Ice-cream.
